Biography

Background: I grew up in coastal Nova Scotia. My family hunted, fished, trapped and gathered as our main sources of sustenance. I come from an English heritage but there is also a line of Miqmauq somewhere back in my bloodline, on my mother's side. If I recall the story correctly my great grandmother's great grandmother was a medicine woman, the daughter of the chief of her tribe. My great grandmother remembered her as having beautiful long white hair, handsome facial features and beautiful dark leathery creased skin. I look forward to meeting her one day. I've always been drawn to Native North America cultures - to nature in general and was drawn to the north over 13 years ago. This is my second home - not the one I was born in - but one that I certainly feel alive in.

I currently play the Bass Guitar in two bands - 'Diga' and 'The Lazy Suzanz'. I only dared to dream about this and begin playing a year ago. When I have time I make hats - the concept for the hats came from a dream I had one night.

I often cook and share meals with my friends. I don't have to wait to die to go to heaven - I've created it right here on earth:)

Materials used for featured hats: Recycled leather and suede jackets, recycled Javex jugs, sinew and needles. I am currently researching and developing new accessories, methods and materials.

What makes my heart sing? My heart sings when I am either inspired to create or share - when I am 'in-spirit' and going with the flow of creation/creativity, love and laughter - when I get to use my hands to create, build, massage and give healing love. When I play music with my friends - in those moments when we fall into the groove and nothing else exists but the dance between us - yet where everything exists - in the moment of recognition - of creation - of connection - of eye contact - and I can't help but to beam from the inside out. My heart sings when I am preparing food with or for my friends/family and then share the feast with them. My heart sings when I play, laugh and dance with my loved ones.

Where do I see this hat thing going, where would I like to see it? It doesn't matter to me where it goes. I believe it has potential to develop and expand and it may also pass by as one of many brief creative projects. I only intend for it to be a source of inspiration and sharing, something that 'makes my heart sing'. As long as this remains I'll go with it.

Something else to share: Dare to dream - you just might surprise yourself at how wonderful you are at doing things you were always afraid to try or even dream of before. Just allow yourself to dream and hand over those dreams to the universe to work on for you...then take those opportunities that arise out of nowhere:)

Love and light
